This week’s Fox 411 Country round-up starts with a legal update on the stage collapse at a Sugarland concert during the Indiana State Fair last year that killed seven people and injured more than 50 others.
In response to a class-action lawsuit filed that names them, a lawyer for Sugarland said in documents, “Some or all of the plaintiffs’ claimed injuries resulted from their own fault.” An attorney representing one of the victims in the lawsuit told Fox59 the band was trying to “pass the blame.”
Meanwhile in a statement posted on their website, Sugarland’s manager Gail Gellman says, “Sadly when a tragedy occurs, people want to point fingers and try to sensationalize the disaster. The single most important thing to Sugarland, are their fans.”
Lawyers for Sugarland are seeking a jury trial.
In other news highlighted in this week’s round-up, Rascal Flatts have announced they are heading to theaters across the country. The April 5th “Changed: One Night Exclusive Theater Event” is brought by Rascal Flatts and AEG Live in conjunction with NCM Fathom. Up on that screen fans will be able to see never before seen footage of the trio plus exclusive live performances of Flatts hits and music from their upcoming album “Changed”, which is set to be released April 3rd. Tickets will be available in March for the event.
Speaking of memorable stage appearances, members of The Band Perry have a couple of “firsts” to add to the scrapbook! Selling out their first headlining show in Nashville, for the first public performance on the new stage at the historic Ryman Auditorium since the 61-year-old floor was removed and replaced. In response to being the ones chosen to mark this occasion, Kimberly Perry said “We had the honor of being the very first act to perform on it. The evening was even better than we imagined.” The sibling trio performed new songs as well as their #1 hits “All Your Life”, “If I Die Young”, and the Gold-certified “You Lie.”
For those marking the calendars further down the line, the line-up for BamaJam 2012 has been announced with headliners Tim Mcgraw, Zac Brown Band, and Kid Rock splitting the dates. BamaJam 2012 takes place in Enterprise Alabama June 14-16.
Rounding-out the round-up it’s what’s on the charts, as Lady Antebellum takes the #1 spot on the Billboard country albums chart with their Grammy-winning “Own the Night” and Keith Urban is topping the Billboard country songs list with “You Gonna Fly” off his album “Get Closer” which is also… our featured song of the week.
