The US is faced with another school shooting this week that occurred in Michigan that left four people dead and several others injured. President Joe Biden extended his sympathies to the families of the victims during his visit to Minnesota.
Biden traveled to Minnesota, and prior to his remarks, the US leader took a moment to comment on a shooting that occurred at Oxford High School in Oxford, Michigan. Authorities reported that three people were killed and eight others were injured. The three people were believed to be students.
“I was informed after the tour. I learned about a school shooting in Michigan. As we learn the full details my heart goes out to the families enduring the unimaginable grief of losing a loved one,” said Biden.
“You gotta know that the whole community has to be just in a state of shock right now,” added the US leader.
Biden was informed of the school shooting by his national security adviser Jake Sullivan on the way to Minnesota. The White House has since provided Biden with updates on the situation. The shooter, identified as a 15-year-old sophomore boy, turned himself in and claimed his right against self-incrimination, and turned over the gun that was used.”
The US leader also recently weighed in on the hearing by the US Supreme Court on the abortion law that was put in place in Mississippi. Biden said that he supports the landmark Roe v. Wade case that ruled a woman’s right to abortion. Biden, who is a devout Catholic, personally opposes abortion but supports women’s reproductive rights.
“I support Roe v. Wade. I think it’s a rational position to take. And I continue to support it,” Biden told reporters regarding the issue that is deemed politically explosive. Biden also said that he was not able to tune in to the hearing that took place Wednesday morning.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said that Biden considers the Supreme Court hearing of the Mississippi law as a threat to women’s rights. Mississippi is one of the states that have put out a law banning abortion in place.
