I’ve seen a lot of shocking things in my life — I’m an alcoholic, trust me, I’ve got stories. But I don’t think I’ve ever been more shocked than by just reading history.
It’s shocking because, as I started to search for answers through book after book after book, it quickly became apparent that the history we are being taught isn’t always the complete history and sometimes it’s entirely inaccurate. Sometimes it’s because of a lazy media who don’t care to find the real answers. Sometimes it’s because people see things through a different prism. But other times it’s through malicious intent. I believe that progressives are not above the latter.
I mean, when you look at the complete pictures of some of the revered figures in history and it’s truly shocking as to why they are revered:
FDR is routinely ranked in the top five presidents of all time. He did more to destroy the Constitution than practically any other president. He used emergency and war to justify running for a third and fourth term. There’s a reason Congress instituted official term limits after FDR died: They didn’t want him to happen again.
Most of us were never taught about the depression of 1920 and the near-depression of 1946 and how they were averted through drastic spending cuts and lowering taxes. We were never taught that Woodrow Wilson was a racist or that FDR subverted the Constitution and tried to stack the courts. We only know that FDR saved us from the Great Depression and Woodrow Wilson was a champion of the worker.
History is being changed. That’s why my eyebrows raised when I heard Michelle Obama say we need to change history. What does that mean, Michelle?
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
MICHELLE OBAMA: And Barack knows that we are going to have to make sacrifices, we are going to have to change our conversation, we’re going to have to change our traditions, our history. We’re going to have to move into a different place as a nation to provide the kind of future that we all want desperately for our children.

I wonder if it’s what we are seeing with the late Senator Robert Byrd.
Here’s a guy who was in the KKK. He was recruiting people to join. And people like Bill Clinton are coming out of the woodwork to defend this guy because he was “just trying to get elected.” So that makes it right? I’m considered a racist because I support Arizona’s immigration policy. But this guy gets a pass on the KKK because he was trying to get elected?
Byrd also filibustered against the Civil Rights Act when he was 47 years old. Somehow he’s getting a pass. But conservatives can’t even say anything nice about Strom Thurmond or else they get disciplined — just like Trent Lott did.
Consider how The New York Times announced Thurmond’s death: “Strom Thurmond, Foe of Integration, Dies at 100.”
Now compare that to the same paper’s coverage of the death of Robert Byrd: “Robert C. Byrd, A Pillar of the Senate, Dies at 92.”
And what do you know? Both obituaries were written by the same person — Adam Clymer. What a coincidence.
You’ve got to go beyond what the news tells you. You have to go beyond what the politicians tell you. You have to go beyond what I tell you and come to your own conclusions about our history with the facts.
I’m convinced when you see the facts the evidence is overwhelming. But either way, you’ve got to look at history, because you are not getting the complete truth.
